Though my parents were good and decent people they were not Christians and I only started to take an interest in Christianity at the age of 22 near the end of my chemistry degree course. This led me to study the Bible and it became increasingly obvious to me that before God I was a sinner and only Jesus Christ could rescue me from my sin. While I was reading the Bible in April 1968 God spoke to me through the Gospel of John”If the Son of Man sets you free you will be truly free.” This became true for me and I was converted.
I joined a church in my home town of Hartlepool. The pastor of that church helped me greatly and I enjoyed the faithful teaching from the bible. As I grew in my faith I began to help the pastor with the preaching in the church. This led to further theological training by distance learning with a college in Wales.
I came to Carlisle as a senior lecturer in charge of physical science at Carlisle College. I attended Grace Evangelical church and eventually became the pastor. I retired from this position in 2004 but continue as part of the leadership team and preaching for other churches. During the past 42 years I can testify to the kindness of God in my life and how the Holy Spirit has led me in every area of my journey.
