Lee's Testimony

Being brought up in a Christian family, I listened to the Christian message from as young an age as I can remember but it went in one ear and out of the other during the first 19 years of my life.

I had little interest in listening to what God was saying to me and during my teenage years I began to have the attitude 'I can do what I want and no-one can stop me'.

I went through a difficult time during my A-levels and wanted to see what the world had to offer. The answer was nothing of any substance but it was not until I went to Sheffield University that I was conscious of God speaking to me and making me aware of how I had sinned against him.

During my first year away from home, I became increasingly aware of my disobedience to God but found hope in the Lord Jesus Christ, who I finally realised had died to take the punishment and guilt I deserved for my sinfulness.

I put all of my trust in him and I am thankful to God for his mercy towards me. I constantly recall the line from the hymn 'I will sing the wondrous story' that reads:

'I was lost but Jesus found me,
found the sheep that went astray;
Threw his loving arms around me,
drew me back into his way.'

God has since directed me to a career in journalism in Leeds and more recently Carlisle and although I still make mistakes and continue to sin in many ways, I am increasingly thankful for the blood of Christ which keeps on cleansing.
